How it works

  1. Bet on a bulbPick a bulb number and a bet, before he starts or while he runs.
  2. He powers the lightsEvery 10 minutes Squeektoshi keeps running, the next bulb lights up.
  3. Lit bulbs share the potEveryone's bets make one pot. When the lights go out, the lit bulbs share it. Higher bulbs get bigger slices, and so do early bets.
How do I play?

You need a wallet (like MetaMask or Rabby) on Sepolia, the test network, with some test SQK and a little test ETH for the network fee. Test ETH is free from Google's Sepolia faucet. On the rehearsal page the game takes practice SQK instead: the "Get 1,000 practice SQK" button gives you some. Press Connect, pick a bulb and a bet, and press Bet. Your wallet asks twice for each bet: once to let the game take exactly that bet (never more), once to place it. When the lights go out, press Collect if your bulb won.

Can I bet after the lights are on?

Yes, but on a bulb at least two ahead of the last one that lit, or of the one he is lighting right now if he is running. Everyone can watch him live, so betting on the very next bulb would be too easy. A bet whose bulb lights in the round it was sent or the next one doesn't count, and you get it back. The page only offers bulbs far enough ahead. A bet placed in the 20 quiet minutes before a blackout is for the next ride.

Which ride does my bet count for?

The ride he is on when you bet. If he is asleep, it counts for his next ride, whenever he starts it. A bet sent while he is taking a break counts for this ride if he gets back on the wheel, and for his next ride if he stays asleep and the lights go out. But a bet sent in a round he ran in stays on this ride, even if he stops right after it. The sentence under the Bet button always says which ride your bet is for. One bet per ride, and a bet can't be changed or taken back.

Why do early bets get more?

A bet placed before he starts takes the most risk, so it gets the biggest slice. A late bet only counts the bulbs that were still dark when it was placed.

What if no bulb wins?

If no bet wins, every bet rolls over into the next night's pot. The board shows it as the bonus pot.

When do I get my winnings?

As soon as the lights go out. Press Collect: it counts the ride and pays you in one go (after a long quiet spell your wallet may ask one extra time, to finish counting). Winnings never expire, so there is no rush. A lit bulb can get back less than its bet on a long night, when the higher bulbs take most of the pot.

How is this connected to the real hamster?

Squeektoshi's wheel has a sensor. Every 10 minutes Squeekchain writes how many turns he ran onto its blockchain, where nobody can change it. The lights only follow those records: turns light the next bulb, no turns make them flicker, 20 minutes without turns is a blackout. The wheel on the board shows his speed right now, which can run a few minutes ahead of the records.

Is this real money?

No. The game uses Squeekchain's test SQK on the Sepolia test network (the rehearsal uses its own practice SQK), which has no money value. 2% of the lost bets and of any bonus pot is burned, and nothing in the game wakes him or rewards running faster. Naps are good.
